Great River Fishing Adventures
Sturgeon Derby
”Battle of the Sexes Round 3”
Great
People, Fishing, Dinner, Prizes and Fun were all packed into this Sturgeon Derby
Day. Participants were made up of Company Boats, Ladies Only, Couples and Men
Only. The Grand Prize was won by the men; Klaus from Germany landed the 7 foot 2
inch (219 cm) Derby winner to win the Sturgeon trip for 4 persons. The men
finally stepped up to the plate to win the biggest fish in our 3rd Derby.
Highlights of the Derby:
* There were 130 Sturgeon caught, scanned and released unharmed by participants
in the
Derby.
* Most Sturgeon caught in
one boat (24): Tom, Laury, Crosby and Jack
* 2nd Biggest Fish of the Day: Crosby (208 cm)
* Smallest Fish of the Day for the Men: Jeff (55 cm)
* Smallest Fish of the Day for the Women: Barb (69 cm)
* Anglers who traveled the furthest to participate: Klaus & Rudi (Germany)
The Derby was a huge success with many of the participants catching their very
first Sturgeon ever! A total of $1660.00 was raised by Participants and
donations from the Guides. The money raised will be used for tagging equipment
needed for future research. Every participant in the Derby was registered in the
Fraser Valley Angling Guide Association (FVAGA) Biggest Sturgeon Contest.
After the great day of fishing the participants, guides and volunteers all came
together to enjoy a fabulous meal. The Best Western Rainbow Country Inn hosted a
wonderful dinner. A presentation on Sturgeon put together by Troy Nelson
(Executive Director of the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society) was
enlightening and informative to all. Every participant in the Derby took home a
prize! We look forward to see all of you return for our Spring Sturgeon Derby
“Round 4 Battle of the Sexes” Sturgeon Derby date to be announced soon. Book
early to reserve your boat! Thanks to everyone involved.

Father and Son memories that last
a lifetime!
Return
customers from last season back to enjoy another day on the Fraser River to
celebrate his special day with his brother and father. We started our adventure
off by doing some Eulachon fishing for bait and fresh fish for their dinner. I
think all were quite excited to see 30-50 Eulachon in the net when we drifted
amongst all to log booms and seals. The biggest job for everyone was to try
getting the Eulachon from the net in one piece! After this unique experience we
moved on to Sturgeon fishing. It was one of those days that the fish god’s were
looking after the birthday boy. We boated 17 Sturgeon in about 4 hours. Everyone
was thrilled and what a great experience for John’s younger brother. We look
forward to having you out again for many birthdays to come!

“Late
Spring Stress Reliever”
Ron put together a first class fishing and golf adventure for him and his
business associates. A couple of refreshing days away from the stressful
pressures of the office. What a team building opportunity! There’s nothing like
being on the river, catching Sturgeon and schmoozing with the boys! A little
card game called chase the ace, a little side betting on the biggest and most
Sturgeon to the boat, all good fun especially when it was our boat that won. We
can’t wait for the rematch!
